Gibraltar – Armenia
Gibraltar hosts Armenia in a match from Group 4 of League D of the UEFA Nations League. Let’s take a look at this match.
For most people it’s an absolute shocker that Gibraltar are currently 2nd in the group with 6 points won so far. This team was regarded as one of the weakest in Europe, but right now they are enjoying 2 wins from 4 games played. Gibraltar started their participation in the competition with two losses agianst Macedonia and Liechtenstein, but in the last two games Julio Ribas’ boys surprised everyone with two wins over Armenia and Liechtenstein.
In Gibraltar’s last match the team managed to beat Liechtenstein with 2-1 at home. Dennis Salanovic opened the score for the visiting team, but Gibraltar managed to turn the game around with goals George Cabrera and Joseph Chipolina. For this small county it’s an amazing feeling to win two consecutive official games.
Here’s the moment to compliment Gibraltar’s Uruguayan head coach Julio Ribas, who is doing a terrific work with this team. Nobody imagined that Gibraltar could win twice in this group, but they managed to do it.
Armenia on the other hand are 3rd in the group with the same amount of points as Gibraltar – 6, but having worse stats in the head to head. For Armenia this is a chance to continue fighting for the first place in the group and promotion to League C. But this can happen only if they win in Gibraltar.
Armenia started their campaign with a win over Liechtenstein at home, but this game was followed by two consecutive and very dissapointing losses against Macedonia and especially against Gibraltar. In the last fixture the Armenians managed to bounce back on their feet, beating Macedonia with 4-0 at home. Can they replicate this performance in their next match as well?
