Eintracht Frankfurt – Freiburg

Eintracht Frankfurt – Freiburg

After both teams losing their last games in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg will meet at the Commerzbank-Arena, trying to do better. For Eintracht this season is not going well, while Freiburg still have a realistic chance to qualify for Europe next season. Let’s take a look.

Eintracht Frankfurt continued to lose even after the COVID-19 quarantine break. Adi Hutter’s team lost twice against Borussia M’gladbach and Bayern Munich, which makes us think that Hutter won’t be the manager anymore after the end of the season. Eintracht are clearly underperforming, being 14th in the table with 28 points. Reaching the Europa League 1/2-finals last year, right now Eintracht are in a run of five consecutive losses in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg on the other hand are still in a pretty good position to qualify for Europa League next season. At this moment Freiburg are 7th in the table with 37 points, just two points behind the 6th Wolfsburg. They have won just one of their last five matches in the league, though.

On Saturday Freiburg had a great chance to win against struggling Werder Bremen, but instead of this suffered a 0-1 defeat. Leonardo Bittencourt’s goal in the 19th minute was enough for the visitors to take the win.

Freiburg obviously need some kind of shaking up in order to improve. During the season this team proved that it’s good enough to qualify for Europa League. But most likely Freiburg won’t do it, if they don’t improve their current performance. That’s pretty much for sure.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg both need to win this game to improve their hurt confidence. The hosts can’t use the energy of the fans, but they need to remind themselves how good they were last season. Maybe this could help them to win against Freiburg on Tuesday.

Freiburg – Bayern Munich

Freiburg – Bayern Munich

Freiburg hosts the champion Bayern Munich at the Schwarzwald-Stadion in a game from the 16th round of the Bundesliga.

Freiburg are havina very positive season so far. They are currently 6th in the Bundesliga standings with 25 points and with a record of 7 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses. In their last three games they suffered two defeats, which hurt them in terms of position in the table, but they are still in the Top 6 and this is absolutely great for them.

Few days ago Freiburg suffered their 4th loss for the season. Christian Streich’s boys visited the capital to face Hertha BSC and got beaten with 0-1. The Czech midfielder Vladimir Darida scored the only goal in the game in the beginning of the second half. Christian Streich picked Vincenzo Grifo and Kwon Chang-Hoon from the bench, but this didn’t hurt the hosts.

Bayern Munich reacted well after suffering two consecutive losses in the league. On Saturday the Bavarians hosted Werder Bremen and entertained their fans with a crushing 6-1 win. Philippe Coutinho was the man of the match, scoring a hattrick and giving two assists. This is a perfect performance by the Brazilian midfielder. Robert Lewandowski twice and Thomas Muller also scored for FC Hollywood.

Bayern Munich has some catching up to do. Right now the champions are 5th in the Bundesliga with 27 points, being 6 points behind the leader RB Leipzig. Against Freiburg they will aim to record their 9th win for the season, but it won’t be easy – Freiburg are pretty decent since the start of the campaign.

Because of Freiburg being pretty good this season, this game between them and Bayern Munich on Wednesday promises to be really entertaining. The champions scored six goals in their last game, but are very solid at home right now.
