Everyone is aware right now that for Liverpool winning the Premier League title is just a matter of time. The Reds are enjoying one of the best seasons in the history of the league, having won 22 of their 23 matches and still being unbeaten. They are 16 points ahead of the champion Manchester City and they even have a game in hand. That’s spectacular.
Last week Liverpool had a tough visit to the Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, but everything went smoothly for the leaders. Liverpool conceded a goal against the Wolves, but also scored two. Jordan Henderson opened the score for Liverpool, while Roberto Firmino scored the winner just six minutes before the end.
Southampton are going to be more fresh for this game, because on Wednesday Liverpool will face West Ham in a postponed game from the Premier League. But will this actually help the Saints?
Southampton are a team which is doing very well since the Christmas holidays. Because of the good results which the Saints recorded, Southampton are now 9th in the league with 31 points. Not too while ago they were actually in the relegation zone and conceded 9 goals against Leicester City in one game. They were pretty bad, yes.
In the previous round Southampton enjoyed their 9th win for the season. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s boys visited Crystal Palace in the capital and scored a 2-0 win. Nathan Redmond opened the score for the visitors, while Stuart Armstrong doubled their lead. It was a pretty solid performance by the Saints.
Liverpool are looking so invincible right now that we can’t possibly say something else, but state the obvious – they are huge favourites against Southampton on Saturday. For them this is another step towards the title.
With just one win in their last five matches in the Premier League, Arsenal are probably aware that with this kind of performance they could hardly achieve anything this season. Right now the Gunners are 11 points behind Chelsea and the Top 4, so it’s now or never for them – they won’t qualify for the Champions League if they don’t start winning on a regular basis.
Mikel Arteta achieved his first win as a manager against Manchester United, but in the next round his team lost two points during the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal at the Selhurst Park was not enough for Arsenal to secure the win.
The bad news for Arteta is that Aubameyang got sent off in this game, so he won’t be avaliable against Sheffield United on Saturday. Meanwhile Hector Bellerin and Callum Chambers remain sidelined as well.
For Arsenal it won’t be easy on Saturday because Sheffield United are performing very well since their promotion from the Championship. Surprisingly for most of the people, the Blades are currently 6th in the league with 32 points, outperforming their next opponent. Only time will tell if Sheffield United will be one season wonder or not. But right now they are showing a lot of quality.
In the previous round United achieved another important win. Chris Wilder’s team hosted West Ham United and won the game with 1-0 at the Bramall Lane. Oliver McBurnie scored the only goal in the game in the beginning of the second half.
In most of the time we would say that Arsenal are clear favourite against Sheffield United, but right now we are not sure how true would be this. The visitors are better positioned in the league at the moment and there are reasons for this.
Right now Bournemouth could be satisfied with they way they perform as they are 9th in the league standings with 13 points won so far, which is absolutely okay for the Cherries. What can worry them is the fact that they are without a win in their last four games in the league, doing three draws and losing once against Arsenal at the Emirates.
In the previous round Bournemouth won a point during their 0-0 draw against Watford at the Vicarage Road, although they can feel regretful about some missed opportunities in this match.
Against Manchester United the manager Eddie Howe can’t use some of his players. Charlie Daniels, Junior Stanislas, David Brooks and Dan Gosling are all injured, missing the home clash against the Red Devils.
Manchester United right now are enjoying a run of three consecutive wins, achieved in three different competitions – Europa League, Premier League and the League Cup.
Last week United managed to enjoy a 3-1 during the visit to Norwich City in the Premier League, while on Wednesday the team progressed in the League Cup as well. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s boys visited Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge and clinched a 2-1 win. Marcus Rashford scored both goals for the Red Devils.
This is a good run of results for Manchester United. The manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was heaviliy criticized lately, but this kind of performance could improve his current situation at the club. What Manchester United needs right now is just one thing – wins, wins and wins.
Based on Manchester United’s current form, we can say they are in a good position to chase all of the three points against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. The Cherries are a tough opponents, but United are in a good shape right now.
Valencia hosts Arsenal in a second Europa League 1/2-final game at the Estadio Mestalla in Valencia. One of these two teams is going to reach the final in Baku and right now the Englishmen are in a better position to do it.
Arsenal are having an advantage after the first leg in London, which they won with 3-1. Mouctar Diakhaby opened the score for Valencia after just 11 minutes of playing, but until the end of the game Arsenal turned it around. Alexandre Lacazette scored twice for the Gunners, while Pierre Emerick Aubameyang gave the hosts an even bigger advantage in the last minute of the match. Now Unai Emery’s team is going to feel much more comfortable at the Mestalla with a good advantage of two goals.
For Arsenal winning Europa League could be the only way to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League. The team is not performing well in the Premier League and it’s currently not in the best position to finish in the Top 4.
Meanwhile Valencia are also 5th in La Liga, being 3 points behind the 4th Getafe. Los Che are in a similar situation. Most surely Marcelino’s boys are feeling sorry for the way they allowed Arsenal to turn around the first game in London.
But nothing is over just yet. Valencia can still turn it around – they know that a “clear” win with just two goals difference will allow them to reach the final of the competition. In some cases Arsenal were shaky in their Europa League visits, so this shall give the Spanish team some hope. As for Arsenal, they are aware that they must be very solid in defense on Thursday.
That’s what we had to say about the Europa League 1/2-finals clash between Valencia and Arsenal at the Estadio Mestalla on Thursday night.
Southampton welcomes Tottenham Hotspur in a match from the 30th round of the Premier League.
It’s not an easy situation for Southampton at the moment. The Saints are currently 17th in the league standings with 27 points won, being just 2 points above the 18th Cardiff City and the relegation zone. The team surely needs to be as good as possible until the end of the season in order to guarantee itself survival.
In their last five games in the league Southampton won only once, made one draw and suffered three losses. One of these losses came in the last round against Manchester United. The Saints were close to winning a point, but they suffered a dramatic 2-3 loss at the Old Trafford. Romelu Lukaku scored a late winner for United in the 88th minute. Before this Yann Valery and James Ward-Prowse scored in David de Gea’s net.
Meanwhile Tottenham are 3rd in the Premier League standings with 61 points won so far. Spurs have a record of 20 wins, 1 draw and 8 losses in their games so far. Right now Tottenham have 3 points advantage in front of the 4th Manchester United.
In the previous round Tottenham made their first draw for the season. It happened in the big derby of North London against Arsenal. The game at the Wembley ended with a 1-1 draw. Aaron Ramsey opened the score for the Gunners, but Harry Kane equalised for Spurs from a penalty kick.
During the week Tottenham had a game in the Champions League as well. Spurs managed to beat Borussia Dortmund for a second time, qualifying for the 1/4-finals of the competition.
That’s what we had to say about the Premier League game between Southampton and Tottenham at the St. Mary’s. Good luck!
The outsider in the Premier League Huddersfield Town welcomes Arsenal in a game from the 26th round of the Premier League. Let’s take a look at this fixture.
For Huddersfield Town there is no more hope that they can survive this season. At this moment they are 20th in the league standings, trailing on 13 points behind the 17th Burnley and the safe zone. How you can see, they would need a miracle to survive. And miracles do not happen very often.
In their last five games Huddersfield Town suffered four defeats and won just one point during the 0-0 draw with Cardiff City. They have won just 2 matches since the beginning of the campaign. As it goes right now, they could finish the season as one of the weakest team in the history of the Premier League.
Huddersfield’s last game was another nightmare. Jan Siewert’s boys suffered a 0-5 defeat during the visit to Chelsea. But we doubt that anyone was really surprised of what happened at the Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal on the other hand are fighting for a Top 4 finish and a qualification to the Champions League. Right now the Gunners are 6th in the league with 47 points, having a record of 14 wins, 5 draws and 6 defeats. In their last five matches Unai Emery’s boys won three times, but also suffered two defeats. Right now Arsenal are 3 points behind the 4th Arsenal and the Top 4.
In their last game the Gunners suffered a 1-3 defeat during the visit to the champion Manchester City. Laurent Koscielny scored Arsenal’s only goal in the game, but City prevailed with a fantastic hattrick from their star striker Sergio Aguero.
Arsenal are the clear favourite against Huddersfield Town. We highly doubt that they can make a mistake against this opponent.
It’s time once again for one of the big football derbies of London. We are heading to the Wembley Stadium in the English capital, because Tottenham Hotspur hosts Chelsea in a match from the 13th round of the Premier League.
Both teams are currently in the Top 4 of the league, being separated by just one point in favour of Chelsea. Right now Tottenham are 4th in the standings with 27 points and a record of 9 wins and 3 losses. Spurs are currently on 5 points behind the leader Manchester City, so they can’t allow themselves any mistakes, if they want to stay in the title race.
In their last five games Tottenham won four of their matches, but suffered a home defeat against Manchester City at the Wembley. Now Mauricio Pochettino’s boys must prove that they can do better in these big derbies. Since their loss against the Cityzens, Spurs won two matches – against Wolves and Crystal Palace.
Tottenham visited Crystal Palace in the previous round and enjoyed a 1-0 win at the Selhurst Park. The only goal in the game was scored by Juan Foyth in the middle of the second half.
Meanwhile Chelsea are third in the Premier League standings with 28 points won so far and a record of 8 wins and 4 defeats. The Blues are still unbeaten since the beginning of the campaign. In their last five games they won three times, but also made two draws – against Manchester United and Everton. Now Maurizio Sarri’s team do not have any other option, but to return on the winning road.
In their last game Sarri’s boys made a dissapointing 0-0 draw duing the home game against Everton.
That’s our thoughts about the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Chelsea at the Wembley. Good luck!
AFC Bournemouth hosts Manchester United in a game from the 11th round of the English Premier League. Let’s take a look at this clash at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth.
Bournemouth are doing very well since the start of the season. Eddie Howe’s team is 6th in the league standings with 20 points and a record of 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. They are currently in a very good form, being unbeaten in their last four games and winning three of them.
In their last match Bournemouth enjoyed a 3-0 win during the visit to Fulham in London. Callum Wilson opened the score after a penalty kick. David Brooks doubled the score for Howe’s team, while Calum Wilson once again made it 3-0 for the visiting team. Before this, Bournemouth made a draw against Southampton and enjoyed wins over Watford and Crystal Palace.
Manchester United are behind their next opponent in the Premier League standings. The Red Devils are 8th in the league with 17 points won and a record of 5 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats. United are not doing in the way the fans hoped, which is the reason why the manager Jose Mourinho is being heavily criticized.
In their last game Manchester United celebrated a win. Mourinho’s boys recorded a 2-1 win at home against Everton. The French duo Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial scored for United. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored once for the Toffees, but his goal was not enough for something more.
It’s hard to pick a favourite here. Manchester United are the bigger club with the better players, but this does not guarantee them the win. Bournemouth are doing even better than them so far and they have the advantage to play at home. Do you trust United to pull this out?
Burnley welcomes Chelsea in a game from the 10th round of the English Premier League. Stay with us, because we are about to take a look at this clash at the Turf Moor.
Burnley are currently 13th in the league standings with 8 points won. Their record shows 2 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats. In their last five games Sean Dyche’s boys won twice, suffered two defeats and made one draw.
Burnley’s last fixture was unsuccessful. The team suffered a heavy 0-5 defeat during the visit to the champion Manchester City. The visiting team was totally outplayed by Pep Guardiola’s team, which was not a big surprise, of course. City are a far bigger club. But Sean Dyche probably hoped that his players would do a little bit better against the Cityzens.
Before losing to City, Burnley were in a run of three consecutive games without a defeat – two wins over Bournemouth and Cardiff City, and a draw against Huddersfield Town.
Chelsea are a title contender once again, after performing in a dissapointing way last season. Right now the Blues are 3rd in the Premier League standings, but trailing on just 2 points behind the leader Manchester City. Chelsea have 21 points and a record of 6 wins and 3 draws. But it’s kind of worrying that Maurizio Sarri’s side made three draws in its last four matches.
In their last game Chelsea made a 2-2 draw at home against Manchester United. Antonio Rudiger and Ross Barkley saved the point for Chelsea. It was 1-2 for United just seconds before the end of the game, but Barkley scored a very important equalizing goal.
That’s what we had to say about the Premier League clash between Burnley and Chelsea at the Turf Moor. We wish you good luck!
