Atletico Madrid – Eibar

Atletico Madrid – Eibar

Atletico Madrid hosts Eibar in a game from the third round of the Spanish La Liga. After winning two wins in the first two rounds, Atletico will try to make it three in a row. Eibar on the other hand won just one point from the first two games.

Atletico’s start of the season was entirely in their own style. Diego Simeone’s boys won both of the game with their favourite result – 1-0. After the win against Getafe in the first round, Los Colchoneros did the same against Leganes far from home.

It was a tough game for Atletico at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque. Los Colchoneros had to wait 71 minutes before scoring a winner. The summer signing Joao Felix provided an assist which the substitute Vitolo turned into a goal.

Right now Atletico Madrid are second in La Liga with 6 points, being only behind Sevilla because of goal difference.

Eibar won just a point from their first two games in the league. Los Armeros lost against Mallorca in the first round, while in the second one they won a point during the visit to Osasuna. The game at El Sadar ended with a 0-0 draw, so both teams went home with a point. Eibar’s head coach Mendilibar put Sergi Enrich and Kike in attack, but they were not able to beat Ruben and score a winner. In the second half Mendilibar put Charles, Exposito and Pedro Leon on the pitch, but Osasuna’s defense stood well.

Atletico Madrid are the clear favourite against Eibar on Sunday, especially at their own Wanda Metropolitano. Los Colchoneros are eager to fight again for the title and the two wins in the first two rounds are proving that. If Cholo Simeone and his boys want to win the gold, they must win games like this at any cost.

Levante – Girona

Levante welcomes Girona in a game from the 18th round of the Spanish La Liga. Here are our thoughts about this clash at the Estadio Cuidad de Valencia on Friday night.

At this moment Levante are 10th in La Liga with 22 points won and a record of 6 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses. In terms of current form, they are not doing really well lately, winning only one of their last five games – against Athletic Bilbao. In the other four matches they made two draws and suffered two losses.

In their last fixture Levante suffered a second consecutive defeat, losing against Rayo Vallecano away from home. Ruben Rochina scored Levante’s only goal in the game, but Rayo managed to win with an own goal from Tono and Raul de Tomas.

Before this unsuccessful visit to Rayo, Levante suffered another loss against the champion Barcelona, conceding a heavy 0-5 defeat at home against the Catalans.

As for Girona, the Catalan club is 9th in the standings with 22 points, being on par with their next opponent. At this moment Girona’s record in the league shows 5 wins, 7 draws and 5 losses. In their last five games the Catalans won only once – against Espanyol, also doing two draws and suffering two defeats against Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla.

In their last game Girona made a 1-1 draw against Getafe at home. Angel opened the score for the visitors, but Girona managed to win a point thanks to an equalizing goal from Bernardo Espinosa just 5 minutes before the end of the game.

That’s our thoughts about the La Liga fixture between Levante and Girona from the 18th round of the Spanish league. These two teams are very close to each other in the standings, so it’s difficult to pick a favourite here. Good luck.

Espanyol – Barcelona

Espanyol hosts Barcelona in a match from the 15th round of the league. The game is going to be played on Saturday night in the Catalan capital.

Espanyol are having a decent season so far. Los Pericos are 7th in the league standings with 21 points, having a record of 6 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats. In a certain moment of the season Espanyol even had a place in the Top 4, but their three consecutive losses in the last three games made them lose some positions.

Since their win against Athletic Bilbao, something really messed up for Espanyol. They conceded three consecutive defeats, losing against Sevilla, Girona and Getafe.

In their last game Espanyol visited Getafe, but conceded a crushing 0-3 defeat. Jorge Molina, Jaime Mata and Antunes scored for Getafe, dominating the game.

Barcelona on the other hand are leading the standings with 28 points won so far. The Catalans have a record of 8 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats. In their last game Los Cules enjoyed a 2-0 win over Villarreal at the Camp Nou, thanks to goals from Gerard Pique and Carles Alena.

Barca had some difficult moments since the beginning of the season, but now Ernesto Valverde’s team is once again leading the standings. Of course, Barcelona could lose the first place really qucik, because their lead in front of the 2nd Sevilla is just one point. As it goes right now, the title race in Spain is going to be really intense.

This was our look at the Catalan derby between Espanyol and Barcelona in La Liga. Barca are the usual favourite here, but traditionally these games are very unpredictable. Everything can happen, we can say. Be careful.
